School holidays- Yay!...or not!

School holidays can be tough for some families. Are you wondering how to keep your kids occupied in the holidays, reduce meltdowns, or get them off screens? Check out the tips below.

1. Get some fresh air and breathe! Go for a walk around the block or spend time in a local park. If your child doesn’t enjoy the outdoors, you could bring the outdoors in. Open the windows and plant some indoor plants- there’s a whole sensory experience here and you’ll purify the indoor air at the same time!

2. Play to your child’s strengths. Do they enjoy cooking, painting. drawing or gaming? Yes gaming! If you don’t want them on screens all the time- negotiate! Ask them to write or draw a new game they would like to see invented or their favourite part of a game they love playing- give them half an hour to do this before they play- then give them a time boundary for being on the screens.

3. Check out somewhere like the Shine Shed- fun, safe and for all abilities. Such an amazing place to let your kids have enjoy some active play, and practice socialising.

4. Most important when the kids are chillin’- have some time for you! This might not involve rest. Sometimes as parents we just need to do that job we’ve been wanting to do for ages, so take the opportunity to get it done- or just rest.
